Feedback culture: how and for what purpose?

A healthy feedback culture is about communicating openly and honestly with one another. Giving and accepting feedback is a key to personal and professional growth.

Feedback culture: personal growth through honest feedback

A good feedback culture is like fertile ground for development. It enables us to openly share and accept both praise and constructive criticism. But how do we achieve this?

Give feedback: When giving feedback, be specific, appreciative and respectful. Instead of just criticizing, emphasize what was good and where there is room for improvement. This will make the other person feel motivated rather than attacked. Use "I" messages to express your own feelings without attacking the other person. For example: "I noticed that..." instead of "You always do...".

Accept feedback: On the other hand, it is important not only to listen to feedback, but also to process it and not see it as a personal attack. It is a tool for improvement. When you receive feedback, try to look at it neutrally. Listen actively and ask questions to make sure you understand the points. This not only shows your willingness to develop, but also appreciation for the person giving the feedback. Take time to reflect and learn from it. See feedback as a gift that helps you to improve. Remember to say THANK YOU for the feedback. And be aware: everyone makes mistakes, and that's okay.

An open feedback culture promotes trust and team spirit. When we learn to both give and receive, we create an environment in which everyone can grow.

How can you learn to give and accept feedback better?

As we all know, practice makes perfect. This also applies to a healthy and open feedback culture. If you feel that you still have room for improvement or that it could be easier for you to give and receive feedback, please contact me and we will discuss the options in a free initial consultation.

Sincerely
Kathrin
